16 Osprey in the bigs, Valverde resigns with Tigers, Eaton rehabbing & GOLDSCHMIDT HAPPENS!
Osprey alum Ender Inciarte (2009) become the 40th Osprey to reach the major leagues this week spending Opening Day on the Philadelphia Phillies 25-man roster before being Designated for Assignment. Due to his Rule V status, it is likely he will return to the Arizona Diamondbacks organization once the speedy outfielder clears waivers.
Inciarte was one of 16 former Osprey to start the season on a 25-man major league roster including two from the inaugural club in 1999, Lyle Overbay with the New York Yankees and Jorge De La Rosa with the Colorado Rockies.
As reported last week, Papa Grande, Jose Valverde has slimmed down 18 pounds and is once again throwing 93-95 mph. Even though the Detroit Tigers claimed no interest in resigning Valverde, they did today, inking him to a minor league contract. With the volatility at the back-end of the Tigers bullpen, don’t be surprised to see Valverde closing again for Detroit this season, a club he saved 110 games for over the past three seasons.
Adam Eaton (2010) was tabbed to be the starting center-fielder for the Diamondbacks, but an injury late in spring training has sent him to the 15-day disabled list. Eaton is rehabbing and the Diamondbacks report he is set to hit in the cage today and resume throwing activities in about two weeks.
Paul Goldschmidt (2009) hit his first home run of the season last night in the Diamondbacks 16-inning victory of the St. Louis Cardinals. The game was also the longest in Chase Field history at over five and a half hours. This is what happens when GOLDSCHMIDT HAPPENS!
The Osprey also announced their 2013 promotional calendar – more on that later, but do not miss Opening Night June 20, the pair of fireworks shows, the Timberjacks Nights – celebrating 75-years of the Pioneer League, the pair of bobblehead nights including Osprey alum and D-Backs everyday catcher Miguel Montero and the nights the Osprey turn up the heat on their rivalry with the Billings Mustangs welcoming manager Pat Kelly and his club back to Missoula and with the Beat Billings T-shirt night, modeled after the D-Backs, BEAT LA night.
Look for updates this weekend on which former O’s landed on full-season clubs in the Arizona Diamondbacks system out of spring training with either Triple-A Reno, Double-A Mobile, Advanced-A Visalia and Class-A South Bend. Good luck to those in the D-Backs family!
Also, don’t forget – The annual Missoula Osprey Job Fair is set for April 24 at the MSO Hub.
