16 Osprey in the bigs, Valverde resigns with Tigers, Eaton rehabbing & GOLDSCHMIDT HAPPENS!
Osprey alum Ender Inciarte (2009) become the 40th Osprey to reach the major leagues this week spending Opening Day on the Philadelphia Phillies 25-man roster before being Designated for Assignment. Due to his Rule V status, it is likely he will return to the Arizona Diamondbacks organization once the speedy outfielder clears waivers.
Inciarte was one of 16 former Osprey to start the season on a 25-man major league roster including two from the inaugural club in 1999, Lyle Overbay with the New York Yankees and Jorge De La Rosa with the Colorado Rockies.

The decision on roster spots is closing in for Major League Baseball teams as they get ready to break camp in both Arizona and Florida. In fact, some of the teams have already announced some of, if not all of, their intentions.
However, there are still players looking for teams to land on this season, with one of those being former Osprey reliever Jose Valverde (2000).
That could be solved soon. The free agent has not only shed the rough ending to last season with the Detroit Tigers, but he has shed some pounds, too. Continue reading
Catching up …
by Ben Catley
Well, let’s try to get you caught up on former Osprey news as the Winter Meetings are winding down …
– I originally wrote this last week, so it was a good thing I didn’t publish it. Little did I think that Ender Inciarte (2009) was going to be picked in the Rule V Draft. Especially in the Major League portion. Yet, that happened earlier today, as Inciarte is now a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. Go figure … oh, by the way, he now enters the top spot in the “Next Osprey to make Major League Debut” list. If he sticks on the 25-man roster – and all indications are that he has a chance, because he would have a specific role – he would be the 40th former Osprey to make a Major League roster. Inciarte now a Phillie
The Rule V draft is complete, and a former Osprey will have a chance to become the 40th former Osprey to make a Major League roster. Ender Inciarte was selected in the Major League portion of the Rule V Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies earlier today, the 10th of the 15 players chosen in that portion of the draft. Fourty-two players were taken in the Rule V draft.
Inciarte had a solid 2012 campaign (.307/2 HR/47 RBI/46-58 SB), but has not played above Class A Advanced Visalia in his five professional seasons, including his debut season stateside in Missoula in 2009. In his career, Inciarte has a .283 batting average with 81 doubles, 23 triples, five home runs, 163 RBIs and 111 stolen bases.
His best season average-wise still stands as his summer is Missoula, with a .325 batting average, 16 extra-base hits, 22 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 66 games while helping the Osprey win the Pioneer League North Division Series and advance to the Championship Series. His catch in deep center field in Game 1 of the Championship Series saved a run and helped preserve a 7-6 win for the Osprey at Orem.
